Project Start - RCP

The Pool Business


Some of you may not be aware, but I was at one point involved in the Pool Industry — As a Pool Builder, I contributed to constructing someone's dream pool. It was tough work, but it had the potential to be rewarding. The best part of that job was the very end; seeing the customer's satisfied face when they see that their long-awaited project has been completed and they're definitely ready to soak up the sun. There was always something refreshing about seeing that finished product, but probably not as refreshing as it felt to get in that pool for the first time.

These days, I spend my time creating in another way; today it was re-visiting the images of an old project — Not a 3D Design, but rather it may have been one of the last pools that I helped build. I took the time to 3D Model the pool design via finished reference photos and some by memory. It was somewhat exciting to return to a previous project and do something different with it. Now it will be featured in the form of an animation and interestingly enough, like a well-made and maintained pool, it too will live on (through the internet) long after we're gone from this Earth — At least, for those of you reading this blog post. This product being made for Rhodes Custom Pools.

Tomorrow part of the project will cover UV Mapping, Baking and Texture creation with Adobe's Substance Painter. After which, there are some more supporting models/actors to be created for the animation itself. We'll be revisiting the various proper stages taken from actual pool construction and likely implement most of these steps in some form of simulated but creative animation.
